If you are wondering how many days in Mykonos you need to get the best of the famous greek island, then this guide will help you plan your trip accordingly so that you see the main attractions and get a good idea of the island's beauties.

How many days you should spend on the island depends largely on the type of vacation you want to take. If you are the type of traveler who is always on the move and lives every moment to the fullest, then even 1 or 2 days should be enough to give you a good picture of Mykonos. However, if you prefer to take your time in each place and enjoy every moment at your own pace, you may need more than 3 days. Of course, the longer you stay on the island, the more things you will see and the more you will relax.

Organizing your trip and deciding how many days to spend on vacation might be tricky. Mykonos is a beautiful greek island famous for its nightlife and parties, but it also has a lot of interesting things to see if you enjoy the beaches, history and culture. So you can have a one-day visit if you just want to get a picture of the island and have a cocktail at night or spend up to five or more full days of sightseeing, beach-hopping, and enjoying the island's famous nightlife. Depending on your interests the following guide will help you decide how many days to spend in Mykonos.

Visiting Mykonos for just one day may seem very little, but it is actually not a bad idea! Spending one day and one night in Mykonos will give you a picture of the island if you do it right. First, you should visit one of Mykonos’ beautiful beaches, like Platys Gialos, Paradise Beach, Super Paradise beach, Elia beach, Ornos beach, Psarou beach, Agios Ioannis, Lia beach, and Agia Anna. Check the map for beaches that are close to each other and maybe you will have the time to visit more than one beach on a single day.

After all the swimming and sunbathing, it must be time to grab some food! In the town of Mykonos and other villages like Platys Gialos or Ano Mera, plenty of restaurants will satisfy your hunger and introduce you to delicious greek cuisine.

After lunch, it might be a good idea to walk around the town and explore the beautiful alleyways of Mykonos. Also known as Chora, Mykonos’ town is one of the most impressive main towns in the Cyclades, full of the typical Cycladic white-washed houses and narrow winding streets. You can enjoy the Cyclades' beautiful architecture, do some shopping and maybe see Petros the Pelican!

While wandering around the Old Town, you can visit Paraportiani church, also known as Panagia Paraportiani. This famous church is actually made up of five churches. The lower part of the construction includes four churches that were part of the Mykonos castle, and the last church on the top is Panagia Paraportiani. Also, if you are interested in archaeology, you should visit the Archaeological Museum in Mykonos Town, where you can see a lot of ancient artifacts.

At night…

Mykonos by night

One night is enough to experience the night of your life! Mykonos is famous for its legendary nightlife, so your one-day trip is far away from ending soon. In the evening head up to the 16th-century Kato Mili windmills of Mykonos. From the vantage point of the windmills, it’s easy to enjoy the view of the stilted houses of ‘Little Venice’. This district of Mykonos town is filled with bars and restaurants, perfect for mooching around or dancing the night away! When darkness falls, Mykonos really comes to life. Choose a local bar to have a cocktail or two (or even party until dawn) in Little Venice.

How to spend 2-4 days in Mykonos

In addition to everything we mentioned above, there are many more things to do and see during your stay in Mykonos. Below you will find a list of must-sees to choose the ones that best suit your tastes and decide how many days to stay.

Day trip to Delos

Mykonos by night

If you have an extra day to fit into your schedule, you should definitely visit the Ancient Delos archeological site. Delos is a small rocky island just a half hour away from Mykonos, which was very important in Ancient Greece and was considered “the most sacred of all islands”. One of the reasons was that according to Greek mythology, the greek God Apollon and his sister Goddess Artemis were born there, and Apollon was also worshiped there. A tour of Delos island is one of the most popular activities for a tourist in Mykonos as it hosts many monumental antiquities from the Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods. The top archeological monuments of the site are the Agora of the "Hermaistes" (or Competaliastes), the Sanctuary of Apollo, which consists of three temples, the marble lions, the marble theatre, and more. Small cruise boats depart from the Old Portf Mykonos a few times per day.

Visit more beaches

Mykonos has many beautiful beaches, and some of them are really cosmopolitan. Beaches like Psarou, Paradise or Super Paradise are a celebrity magnet, with fine sand and waters but mostly famous for their beach bars that host some epic parties.

However, even though Mykonos is famous for its celebrity beaches, there are also a lot of more quiet beaches, where you’ll enjoy the blue waters and nice sand in a more relaxed, chilled-out way. Other than the ones mentioned on the first day, more quiet beaches include Agios Stefanos, Ftelia, Kapari, Megali Ammos, Fokos, Agrari, Korfos, and Mirsini.

Enjoy some art

Mykonos has a lively contemporary art scene. If you like art, you should visit the Dio Horia Gallery, which exhibits some fascinating pieces of art and also has a great rooftop bar with a nice view!
